Description: 13 students of class 10(i), accompanied by our class teacher, Mrs. R. Das, visited Nava Nir School on a rainy 7th of July. We divided ourselves into three cars and reached the school at around two in the afternoon. We were greeted by the children on entering the classroom. There were some gifts for the children like “Alphabet Cards, Number Cards, 5 Picture Charts, 45 Tiffin Boxes, 15 water Bottles, 13 School Bags, 40 Drawing Books, 46 Colouring Books, 40 Pencil Pouches, 40 Crayons, 40 packs of Biscuits, 40 Chocolates, 40 Cupcakes, 40 Lollipops, 60 Sweets and balloons”. We quickly assembled ourselves in front of them and handed out the balloons that we had blown in the car. They were extremely happy on seeing the balloons and smiled when we gave it to them. We soon started all the activities that we had planned for them. We read out the alphabet and number cards and were surprised to see that some of the children knew the spellings before we even told them. When we brought out the picture charts, the children immediately started guessing the fruits and vegetables drawn on them. We read out the picture charts to them and had a lot of fun seeing them trying to guess the Bengali names. After the teaching was over, we gave out the gifts that we had brought for them. Their eyes widened when they saw the basket of chocolates and politely thanked us when we distributed it among them. When we brought out the cupcakes that one of our classmates had made and handed one to each, they immediately dug in. After all the goodies were exhausted, we sat down on a mat and interacted with the children. One of our classmates had taken charge to be our photographer and recorded all the memories we made. After all the teaching we had done, all we needed was a refreshing drink and were overjoyed when we were given glasses of Sprite. After we finished our drink, we decided that it was time to leave. All the children enthusiastically waved at us as we left their classroom. When we left Nava Nir, all of us had a joy in our hearts and smiles on our faces, knowing that we had made a difference to the twenty eight children we visited, one afternoon.
