  • Talk by representative from the Narcotics Cell, West Bengal Police A representative from the Narcotics Cell of the West Bengal Police spoke to the senior students (Classes IX to XII) about drug abuse, how drug peddlers trap unsuspecting young adults and the long-term effects of substance abuse on the mental and physical health of the users. In his very well-structured talk, on April 3, 2014, Mr. Chatterjee, parent of a student in Class nursery, made an impact on the students who had several questions, which he answered very well.
  • Teachers’ Orientation Programme
    Br. Gerald Alvaris conducted a Two-day Orientation Programme for teachers on March 31 and April 1, 2014.The seminar included prayers, reflections and sharing in small groups as well as sharing with the large group. The teachers found the sessions very helpful and rejuvenating. After the programme they felt suitably refreshed and equipped to face the demands and stresses of the new academic session.
  • Workshop on Leadership
    Loreto Day School, Bowbazar, organized a day-long seminar on Leadership for the Student Council members of all Loreto Schools in Kolkata on April 4, 2014. The resource persons included an eminent theatre personality, an educationist and a school principal. The eighteen member Loreto House Student Council enjoyed the different sessions and became more aware of their responsibilities as school leaders.
  • Aerospace and Science Discovery Camp
    Students of Classes VI to X attended a Science Camp conducted by a five-member team from Atlantis Research, led by former NASA scientist Mr. Sam Gibbs, on April 5, 2014. The workshop was held over four sessions which included experiments on the concepts of static charges and air pressure, audio-visual presentations on the formation of the moon and the earth and the different components of the electromagnetic spectrum and the making of working models of mini rockets.
  • Church Services
    A. First Friday Mass was held on April 4, 2014.
    B. Sacrament of Reconciliation for Catholic students of both Junior and Senior School was held on April 7, 2014.
  • Orientation Programme for parents of students admitted to Class Nursery The Orientation Programme held on April 7, 2014, was well attended and addressed by the Principal, Vice-Principal and Junior school Co-ordinator. The vision of Mary Ward and the ideals of a Loreto Education were brought out through a Powerpoint presentation. The parents were also given an idea of the academic and co-curricular of the institution. The Class Teachers handled all queries regarding the day-to-day functioning of the Junior School and particularly the Nursery class.
  • Farewell
    The school bid farewell to Mrs. S.N. Dutt, our very efficient and popular teacher of Mathematics and Psychology on April 8, 2014. At the special Prayer Service held, glowing tributes were paid to her by the Principal, fellow teachers and the students.
  • Yukti Fest
    Students of Classes XI and XII attended the Yukti Fest, organized by Loreto Day School, Elliot Road, on April 9, 2014. The different events included elocution, cookery, a traditional costume fashion parade etc. The host school won the trophy, but graciously handed it over to us as we were the Runners-up.
  • Special Assemblies
    A. Class VIII-1 had a special assembly on the new year customs and traditions in the different states of the country, on April 10, 2014. The assembly included several dances that are performed to welcome the new year by different communities living in harmony in this beautiful country.
    B. Class IX-1 put up a special assembly on Easter on April 11, 2014. The story of Easter and Resurrection was narrated through a very well prepared Powerpoint presentation by Sr. Phyllis and Sr. Greta. The girls spoke about the significance of the different Easter traditions through a skit.
  • Guides’ Camp
    On April 11 and 12, 2014, twenty-eight Guides had an overnight camp at the LoretoHouse school premises. This is a requirement for the Rajya Purashkar, as per the Guides syllabus. The camp gave the members of the Movement an opportunity to spend quality time together, during which they worked as well as enjoyed themselves.
  • LTS Interaction
    On April 12, 2014, three LTSers interacted with a group of five German students at the LTS Centre. The two groups shared their cultures and values and discovered that the core values were the same in both countries.
  • Earth Day
    A. The significance of Earth Day, April 22, was described to the students at Assembly. The theme of Earth day this year, ‘Green Cities’ was explained.
    B. Students of Class VIII attended a workshop organized by the Indian Museum in association with GSI,ASI, WWF, Earth day Network and the Crafts Council of West Bengal. Through a series of events like pottery-making, drawing of Alpanas, a Purulia Chhau dance performance etc. ,the programme created an awareness among the students about the need to preserve our natural heritage.
  • Class XI Orientation Programme
    The new batch of Class XI students (2014 -15) was given a warm welcome by the Class XII students. The programme included a welcome dance, various group activities designed to help the newly admitted students and the others to know each other and a performance by the Senior School Band. The session ended with a dance in which all the students participated.
  • Orientation Programme by Br. Brenden McCarthaigh
    Mrs. P. Roychowdhury and Mrs. S Bhattacharjee attended pre-seminar workshop on ‘Sex and Gender in the Classroom ‘on April 24, 2014. Conducted by Br, Brenden the workshop threw light on the pertinent issues being faced by teachers in today’s world.
  • Inter-House Creative Writing Contest
    The Inter-House English Creative Writing Contest was held on April 25, 2014 and the Hindi and Bengali Creative Writing contest was held on April 30, 2014. Several students from Classes VI to XII participated in the contest. The contests was co-ordinated by Mrs. Raka Das, Mrs. R. Singla and Mrs. S Chakrabarti.
  • Campaign against Hunger and Disease
    A mini-fete was organized by the students of Classes VI to XII to raise funds for different projects to eradicate hunger and disease and to support the Loreto House Literacy Centre. Food stalls, Games stalls, Treasure Island and Lucky Dip were some of the attractions. The collections at the fete was INR 68,460/-
  • Awards
    Ilina Ghosh of Class XII won a silver and two bronzes at the 7thAsian Taekwondo Championships held in Kathmandu.
  • Debates
    The students reached the semi-finals at the prestigious Slater’s Debate from April 24 to 26, 2014 at Shimla. This is an invitation debate in which selected schools from all over India participate. The team won prizes in all the debates that they participated in.
  • May Day Celebrations
    Students of Class X prepared a special prayer service and entertainment programme for the support staff of the school on April 29, 2014. The Principal treated the staff to lunch. The students thanked Dilip Durwan for looking after them for so many years and wished him a happy and peaceful retired life.
  • Crowning of our Lady
    The Crowning of Our Lady on April 30, 2014 was organized by the Junior School. The solemn ceremony was attended by students of all classes, who joined in the hymns.
  • Investiture Ceremony
    The Investiture Ceremony of the new Student Council was held on April 29, 2014. The Council took the oath to serve the school with dignity and integrity. The ceremony was attended by all the students of the Senior School.
