Visit to Lawrence D Souza Home
27.072024
Our visit to Lawrence De Souza Home, on 27th July'24 was an unforgettable experience. Although we were nervous at first, we introduced ourselves and began with a heartfelt prayer followed by the hymn "Shepherd of My Soul." As we started talking to the residents there, we all began to warm up and discovered just how friendly, fun, and talented they were. They shared incredible stories, and we were amazed by their singing and dancing skills.
We performed a dance to "Lakadi ki Kaathi" and sang "Aashiyaan," which was thoroughly enjoyed by our "grannies".
We also had a group dance to the song "Rivers of Babylon" and played games like Tambola and Passing the Pillow. We didn't realise how fast the time flew by as we enjoyed each other's company and shared many laughs.
To end the visit, we gave out goody bags filled with handmade cards, cookies, muffins, chocolates, and flowers, which we had prepared with love. We all agreed that the effort we put into planning and practicing for this event was more than worth it. Meeting such wonderful people and making new memories was an experience we will always cherish.
Since last year the LTS unit of Loreto House started an initiative to reach out
to the Senior Citizens of our city.
This year, on 29th June, 9 students from Class VII(I) visited St.Lawrence D'Souza
Old Age Home as a part of Loreto House's commitment to community service. The
students prepared a short programme for the Senior Citizens comprising of
prayers, hymns and a prayer dance. This was followed by an entertainment
programme where everyone danced and sang to popular songs of Boney M, Oh
Carol, Birdie Dance etc. It was a beautiful Saturday morning spent with the
senior citizens of the home and our students ensured that all of them had
a wonderful time and took back memories to be cherished forever.
Visit to Old Age Home
Lawrence D'Souza Home
The Leadership Training Service club of Loreto House initiated an annual project for the year 2023-24 where students of Classes IV-VII were taken to the Lawrence De Souza old age home, located in Janbazar, Kolkata, every Saturday of each month starting from July 2023 to February 2024.
The weekly visits to the Eldercare home provided a profound experience to both the students and the residents. As the students engaged in conversations, played games and offered companionship, they made the elderly feel valued fostering a sense of belonging and joy. These visits bridged generations, made eternal connections, leaving lasting impressions of empathy and understanding.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our principal, Mrs. Gomes for giving us this invaluable opportunity to visit the old age home and for her unwavering support. We would also like to thank our LTS club animators, Mrs. Singh, Mrs. Joshi and Mrs. Saha for guiding us throughout and making this project a huge success.
LTS TRIP (Leadership Training Program)
On the 15th of July, 50 students from classes 8 and 9 went to Khardah for an environmental trip where each of us planted a sapling; making a difference in a small way.
Early morning this Saturday we started for our destination from school on a bus. Within an hour of boarding the bus, we reached Khardah Municipal Office where we were warmly greeted with gifts and breakfast.
After which we traveled the short distances on “totes” to Bharati Sangha Club, and Laha Bagan Club for the plantations. Then we visited the 500-year-old Shyam Mandir before going to a park to rest.
We also found time to engage in a friendly environmental debate with the topic “Conservation and Development do not go Hand-in-hand” and have a lively Quiz Session followed by with Stand-Up comedy round, all of which found an audience with the current Agriculture Minister.
As a part of this trip, we learned to be mindful of our environment and take responsibility for it. We’d like to thank Mrs. A. Gomes for this invaluable experience and our LTS club animators Mrs.Singh, Mrs. Saha, and Ms. Joshi for accompanying us and being supportive throughout.
And last but not least kudos to all who came for the trip for being so enthusiastic and being a good sport!
On the 26th of December, 2018, 33 girls from the LTS club of Loreto House attended the annual Christmas Carnival organized by the Leadership Training Service club, Kolkata, called IGNITE. The carnival is a student initiative put together by the students of the schools and colleges in Kolkata. There are games, lip-smacking refreshments backed by a beautiful selection of songs and performances by students that make this one of the most unique carnivals in town. However, the best part about this carnival is the fact that it is a noble initiative. The money earned through this event is used for charitable purposes every year- such as making wheelchairs for people in old age homes, etc. The fun fiesta is so joyous and lively and it is these students that bring it to life. It aims at developing the leadership skills in all whilst also doing social work. It is also eco-friendly. It is attending and being part of such events that make being a member of the LTS even more worthwhile.
